When you exit from the gold elevator from the outside of the building, take your first left and walk past the Reference Desk. There are stairs and a public elevator to get upstairs.
If you come up the stairs from the Academic Commons, walk straight past the library service desk to the gold elevator. Then take a right to find the stairs and public elevator.
